  • Television (general & sport) news reporter, Sport News Presenter - SWABC - initiating, researching and producing daily news reports for English and Afrikaans bulletins; including script writing, stand-up, voiceover, video-editing.
  • Television Editor - SWABC - daily scheduling of news reports, editing scripts, deciding bulletin orders and overseeing in-studio production.
  • Political Reporter - Windhoek Observer - covered the Namibian independence process, including elections, Constitutent Assembly and Parliament.
  • Managing Editor - Windhoek Observer - responsible for managing news gathering and production, defining style and editorial policy.
  • Freelance journalist - filing freelance news reports for The Argus, Weekend Argus, Cape Times, Sunday Times and politcal commentary for South.
  • Sub-Editor - Evening Post - designing newspaper pages and sub-editing copy from news reporters.
  • Sub-Editor - Cape Times - designing newspaper pages and sub-editing copy from news reporters. Also worked on the redesign and re-launch of the newspaper in 1994/5 and deployment of QPS desktop publishing system (DTP); while working from home to acquire technical skills (HTML, CSS, Javascript, ASP, SQL). Worked with Mark Shuttleworth and Andrew Morris to establish IONS, the fore-runner of IOL and managed the online news service on a daily basis.
  • Freelance Consultant - Continued to manage IONS on a contract basis, while working on production of Peninsula Times, Business Bulletin (Chamber of Commerce & Industry) and consulting to the Daily Despatch to migrate their production system to QPS platform.
  • Digital Media Consultant - Info-Age - started my own digital media consultancy with offices in Cape Town city centre, helping SME business understand the internet and integrate digital technologies into their business processes, building websites and providing hosting solutions. Also writing occasional freelance technology articles for the Cape Times and completing a number of research projects for Mweb.
  • Technical Editor - Fasthosts Internet (UK) - writing technical support documentation for web and email hosting customers; and content management of customer knowledgebase.
  • Editor (digital standards and guidelines) - BBC (UK) - co-ordinated technical and design workgroups across six content-commissioning divisions of the BBC, producing technical and design standards for BBC web production teams.
  • Digital Project/Change Manager - managing the build and operation of large content management systems; for various European organisations, in the private, government and NGO sectors - including the British Home Office, Financial Services Authority (FSA), Care Quality Commission (CQC), BP, Whitbread Plc, Truvo (Belgium), Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS).

    Returned to South Africa (2014), where I live and work in Cape Town, investigating and researching community, environmental and human rights issues, for print and digital publications (News24, IOL, Daily Maverick and GroundUp.). Also conceptualising and building digital prototypes or chatting with Nietzsche while wandering around in the mountains.
